Registration and Admissions X

If you are registering for an online class as a "special student" (see definition below), then you should go to the online registration form.

Special Student: Students who wish to enroll in selected courses without being formally admitted to the degree program may enroll as a special student. This includes anyone who wants to take a course(s): for personal enhancement; for a certificate or diploma rather than for a degree; to transfer courses to another institution; to get started in a course while waiting to be admitted to a degree program; or to be enrolled on a trial basis. Special students are allowed to enroll in a maximum of 12 credits before they are required to apply for admission into a degree program. Special students are not eligible to receive financial aid. Special students receive full academic credit for credit courses taken while they are on special student status. The special student may later be considered for admission into a degree program if a 3.00 grade point average has been maintained in all graduate-level work and all other admission requirements are met. All graduate-level work will be included in computing the student's academic average.

If you are a "matriculated student" (see definition below), then you must speak with an advisor before you can register for courses. Please go to the admission section under the appropriate area of study to learn how to register for courses.

Matriculated Student: A matriculated student is an individual who has applied for and been admitted into a degree program. Matriculated students must contact an advisor before registering for a course. Those seeking formal admission as a matriculated student of the UW-Platteville School of Graduate Studies must have earned a bachelor's degree from a nationally accredited institution recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). International degrees will be evaluated on an individual basis. To be eligible for admission in full standing, a student must have an overall undergraduate grade point average of 2.75 or above, or 2.90 on the last 60 credits from the degree-granting institution.

To apply as a matriculated student you must provide (to the Distance Learning Center, B12 Karrmann, Platteville, WI 53818-3099) the following:
  • UW-Platteville Application for Graduate Admission--available from the Distance Learning Center, or if you would prefer, you may apply using the Graduate Admission form on the web site.
  • Application fee.
  • Official* transcript from the institution granting the undergraduate degree.
  • Detailed resume.
  • If you are requesting transfer credits for the graduate degree, you must also provide official* transcript(s) from the institution(s) where the credits were earned.

For specific requirements for each program go to that program's page:
Business Administration  |  Criminal Justice  |  Engineering  |  Project Management

You must request that official* transcripts be mailed directly from the Registrar's office at the institution(s) attended to the Distance Learning Center, B12 Karrmann, Platteville, WI 53818-3099. Unofficial transcripts received directly from a student are not acceptable.

Students may be contacted on an individual basis for additional information to support their admission.

Students who do not qualify for admission in full standing may be admitted on a trial enrollment, justified by the admitting department and approved by the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies.

Students are allowed seven years from the formal date of admission into the graduate program to complete degree requirements; extensions may be granted for extenuating circumstances.

If you have not yet applied for admission to a program, but are interested in doing so, please go to our Undergraduate Admission page to fill out your application (undergraduate).

For Graduate Admission please do one of the following:
